Kelly Does Life

One run at a time

2 notes

Second day of break, second pre-7am makeup call..

Yesterday I set my alarm (and got up) at 6:45 to go shopping before it got crazy. Everyone else was in bed and it was AWESOME. Today’s 6:45am alarm was brought to you be the last group run of the year!

I haven’t been on much. Talking about the fact that my leg STILL hurt wasn’t helping anyone. Three weeks of ellipticalling (new word FTW!) it later, I’m not 100%, but I’m at least at 90% on the leg and have been running 3x per week for the past two weeks.

Marathon training plan starts in two weeks. Just in time!

11/2 - 162.8 11/9 - 162.2 11/16 - 162.6 11/23 - Sick! 11/30 - 162.0 12/7 - 162.4

I get it. My body likes 162. I don’t. Running tonight (but probably using the elliptical). I lifted, did push-ups, pull-ups and lunges yesterday.

Pros? I can still do 15#, 15 rep biceps curl sets. Need to go back up to 20#. 15# also wasn’t enough when doing overhead shoulder presses. Also, I can still do sets of 20 push-ups and 2 pull-ups and 2 chin-ups each without a chair! In other words, I haven’t lost much strength at all!

Cons? Why did I eat (a small bowl) of ice cream last night? Grr. At least its gone now!

Apparently my mismatching extends past my running wardrobe - khaki pants with black shoes (vs brown) today. I need to stop getting dressed half-asleep!

4.5 miles in 41:00

I’m still listening to my body and trying to figure out what it says I should be doing. My leg hurts, yes, but not any more when I run than otherwise. It IS better, though.

I set out to do at least 3, maybe a little more. My muscles and lungs want to go, go, go (so much so that I didn’t avoid the monster hill in my neighborhood!) so I went a little longer than planned.

I’m hoping to get 5 on Wednesday, 2-3 on Thursday, and 7-8 on Saturday. It’s a little less than I was running 2 weeks ago, but more than I’ve been running since. One thing I don’t miss about 25 mile weeks? The crazy hunger. It’s been nice to eat like a normal person!

1 note

Can’t decide if I should run or use the elliptical tonight. I want to run, but using the elliptical probably won’t irritate my leg/hip as much (totally hoping for a long-ish run this weekend).

Also, going to my parents’ to use the elliptical would be good as my mom received some not-so-great news yesterday: 95% chance her cancer is back. :( Visiting would be good.

It’s going to be a busy holiday season, for lots of reasons now.

Yesterday was a non-run day (trying not to run back-to-back days) and I was in a mood, so I baked cookies. I didn’t have any until the last batch came out, then I had one when it was still warm and gooey. :P

Short run tonight - I’m not going to jinx myself, but my leg DOES feel better. Not 100%, but I don’t think its a major injury.

Crabby about some family issues, namely with my BF’s family being rude and inconsiderate. In years past, I was included in their Christmas gift exchange, but not this year. And there’s a family picture planned that I wasn’t invited to be in. Ouch. On the plus side, I think my BF is more p.o.ed than I am!

Almost not sick anymore, but almost injured?

I had a vacation week last week, so of course I spent all of it sick. I have the sniffles today, so I’m much better than the sinuses, achiness and fever of last week!

I ran Saturday, a little over a week ago, then hit the elliptical twice during the week, then ran Friday and Sunday (yesterday). I skipped a couple days running because that Saturday long run was awful. Dehydrated, starting to get sick, etc. During the week though, I started getting leg pain.

It’s not my quad, and I don’t think its tendons. I hope its not the bone, but how would I injure my femur?! Especially when I wasn’t running on it?

Avoiding making a doctor’s appointment, and just hoping I wake up tomorrow and its better. Always a good practice, right?

Elliptical Win

30 mins on the elliptical. Machine says 475 calories. I think not, but I think 300-350 is a safe bet. I don’t work that hard while running. ;)

No knee or Achilles pain, yay! Now? Time for lunch.

Siiiiiick

I had a horrible long run Saturday. 11.7 miles was cut “short” to 9.7 when I had my mom come and pick me up. Hooray for not getting stranded!

I had some leg pain and more achiness than normal. I figured I needed some time off - maybe I’ve been overtraining?!

Today? I woke up with a sore throat and major sinus (hehe autocorrect thought I was talking about a diff part of anatomy here!) pain - so at least I feel better that my body wasn’t p.o.ed about overtraining. Just getting sick. :)

I still think I’m going to spend the $100 and switch back to my old shoes. The new ones don’t quite have 100 miles on them yet, but I miss them and their increased stability support on long runs. I just became a two shoe runner!

Mid-week 7-miler

Usually on Wednesdays, but I had volleyball and hadn’t run 3 miles on Monday (per schedule) so I did 3.5 Wednesday (they played vball lol) and 7 last night. If I had a treadmill, I so would have used it. 30 degrees F? Pass.

It’s funny, though, because after I’m warmed up, all I need are my long sleeved mock turtleneck and compression pants (both cold gear, obv).

Amazing what you get used to. 11-12 miles Saturday, group run Sunday.

I miss running 5 days/week.

A very nice gentleman at the office brings candy in from time to time. I found these on my desk, but I’m afraid to eat one. One turns into two, which quickly means I’ve eaten all of them.

I wish I could eat one piece instead of all of them. Or eating candy until I get sick. I thought that would come with a year of healthier eating, but I’m still waiting on my will power to show up.
